Sister Wives' Meri Brown confirms her 32-year marriage to Kody is over: 'He made the decision'

It's over for Meri and Kody Brown.

In PEOPLE's exclusive look at the first Sister Wives: One on One In the episode airing on Sunday, Meri, 51, confirmed the end of her 32-year marriage to Kody, 53.

During her conversation with host Sukanya Krishnan, Meri sees a clip in which Kody says he doesn't consider himself married to her. “If she wanted to move on and marry someone else, she wouldn't have a fight with me,” he says in a confessional on camera.

Then Sukanya asks Meri how she feels hearing these words from her husband.

“It just doesn't make sense to me that he's so frustrated with Christine [Brown] and like, 'She just made that decision. We didn't consult, we didn't talk, she just made the decision and then he says, 'No, I don't consider myself married to Meri,'” she says. “Like he just made the decision. I've never heard him say that to me.”

Christine and Kody announced their separation in November 2021 after more than 25 years of marriage. In a preview of the upcoming tell-all special, which will be released on December 11, Kody and his third wife Janelle Brown also confirmed that they are separated.

“Ever since we've been in Flagstaff, he's made me believe he's trying,” she explains. “You know, our first anniversary that we had here in Flagstaff was a celebration of a new beginning, as opposed to this last anniversary when he said, 'I don't even know why you called me Meri.' He said, 'We're not married. We don't act married.'”

Meri continues: “I said to him, 'If we've come to this, don't you think we should address this publicly?' And he said, 'No, I don't want to address this. I don't want this to be public because I don't want that verdict.'”

The interviewer then asks Meri, “Where does that stand for you? Are you still married to Kody? Or is that something you can decide for yourself?”

Meri replies, “Well, he has already made the decision. You just saw that.”

Even though her long-term marriage is coming to an end, Meri says she's still interested in making things work.

“Would you ever consider reconciliation?” Krishnan asks, and Meri replies, “I would. I definitely would. But I don't think he's interested in that.”
