Royal Mail workers stage six more strikes

Royal Mail workers will stage six more strikes next month, including on Christmas Eve, amid a long-running dispute over pay, jobs and working conditions.

The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) announced that its members would strike work on 9, 11, 14, 15, 23 and 24 December.

This is in addition to Strikes Dates have already been announced for November 24th, 25th, 30th and December 1st.

The CWU said it still wanted a negotiated solution but that bosses needed to “wake up and realise that we will not allow them to destroy the livelihoods of postal workers”.

It was said that a collective agreement for 2% was enforced at a time when Inflation had reached 11.1% and the company makes hundreds of millions in profit.

A Royal Mail A spokesman said: “We prefer to reach agreement with the CWU, but the change we need is not optional.”

“They should focus on resolving this conflict in the interests of their members and the long-term health of the company, rather than on damaging strike action.”

The announcement is a continuation of months of industrial action and threats of strikes in numerous sectors.

Ground handlers at Heathrow Airport announced a 72-hour strike over pay to start on Friday.

The railway union RMT announced this week that its members have signed a new mandate for another six months of strike. Train drivers from the Aslef union are on Saturday, November 26, it will strike again.

Tens of thousands of university employees will also strike for three days later this month.

In the meantime, Nurses have given the government five days to open “detailed negotiations” on pay or they will go on strike in December.
