Drew Barrymore explains why she doesn't give her children presents for Christmas

Drew Barrymore recently revealed why she doesn't give her two children presents for Christmas.

The actress and talk show personality told Entertainment Tonight host Nischelle Turner on Thursday that she has a different holiday tradition with her daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8.

“I take them on a trip every Christmas,” she said. “I don't give them presents – which I don't think they like at their age. But I say, 'I think we'll remember the place, the photos and the experience, and that's what I want to give you.'”

Barrymore added that while she gives her little ones “lots of things throughout the year,” she prefers to give them a “memory of life” instead of gifts during the holidays.

“It all balances out and it's fine. But I really like traveling at Christmas,” she said.

The actor has Olive and Frankie with his ex-husband Will Kopelman. The two divorced in 2016 after four years of marriage.

Barrymore often speaks openly about her experiences as a mother.

During a conversation on singer Demi Lovato's podcast last year, Barrymore recalled telling her daughters that she would always consider herself their parent and not their “friend” – a perspective she adopted because of her turbulent past with her own mother.

“It's not like it has to be this strict relationship,” Barrymore clarified. “You can be friendly and do things.”

But children still need “a guiding star for their correct behavior,” she argued.

In September, Barrymore also wrote a sweet tribute to Olive for her 10th birthday.

“I have never known love like the one I have for you and your sister Frankie,” she said in an Instagram post. “The greatest love I will ever know. She is at the top of my heart. You are my priorities.”
