Melania Trump's White House Christmas decorations unveiled

Melania Trump has unveiled this year’s White House Christmas decorations on social media – and they do not disappoint.

The 49-year-old First Lady shared a video of the look on her official Twitter and Instagram accounts today.

This year’s exhibition is a tribute to “The Spirit of America.”

The footage begins with Melania opening one of the doors of a giant Advent calendar in the shape of the White House.

This isn't the only mini-White House on display – towards the end of the video, Melania is seen arranging small festive wreaths on a gingerbread White House in front of bakers.

The flag colors (red, white and blue) take center stage, from a fireplace covered in red roses—the national flower of the United States since 1986—to flag-themed decorations in the trees, along with festive gold and green.

Large white star ornaments depicting the Star-Spangled Banner hang from the ceiling.

The video also includes a nod to the work of the First Lady herself: a Scrabble ornament that reads “Be Best,” a tribute to her awareness campaign that focuses on youth well-being and advocates against cyberbullying and drug use. Dominoes and playing cards with cute animal designs are also among the Christmas tree ornaments.

The tradition of the wife of the US President decorating the White House for Christmas dates back to First Lady Lou Henry Hoover, who put up the first official Christmas tree in the White House in 1929 – and Melania has continued this tradition over the years, receiving rather mixed reactions.

This year, her designs seem to have been popular with some social media users.

Last year Melania was mocked for her choice of red Christmas decorations – People on Þjórsárdalur mocked a video of her walking through deep red trees, comparing the scene to anything The Handmaid's Tale to minced meat.

The previous year, 2017, white and black decorations were compared to Harry Potter's Voldemort's apartment.
