Voted the best lake in Michigan

With its wide, sparkling expanse and sandy beaches, Lake Michigan has always been popular with locals and tourists alike. But now it has an official title to back it up. According to Cheapisim, Lake Michigan was just named the best lake in Michigan. That's really no surprise.

This Great Lake is a paradise for anyone looking to soak up the sun, take a refreshing swim, or enjoy some of the best beach atmosphere this side of the country has to offer.

What makes Lake Michigan so special? First of all, its sheer size is impressive. With an area of over 56,000 square kilometers, it is the third largest of the Great Lakes and offers something for everyone.

Families flock to the shores for picnics and sandcastle building, while adventurers venture out onto the waves for boating, kayaking and paddle boarding. Charming lakefront towns, like Traverse City and Holland, offer a mix of quaint shops, charming restaurants and festivals that celebrate local culture and flavors.

One of the biggest attractions is the stunning Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. With its towering sand dunes and panoramic views, it's a must-see for nature lovers. And let's not forget the mesmerizing sunsets that paint the sky in shades of orange, pink and purple – each one a masterpiece that perfectly caps off a perfect day.

Lake Michigan isn't just a lake; it's an experience, a lasting memory. And now, with Cheapisim's approval, it's officially the crown jewel among Michigan's countless lakes.

The Christmas tree ship has been in Lake Michigan for a century

In December 1912, the Rouse Simmons sailed from Thompson, Michigan, with a deck and cargo of periwinkle. But when a winter storm came along, the crew was unable to battle the waves and the ship foundered in the depths of Lake Michigan.

See the Christmas Tree Ship today, where it rests, covered in zebra mussels, about 12 miles northeast of Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
