'It Ends With Us' cast unfollows Justin Baldoni as drama rumors grow

“It Ends With Us” isn’t even in theaters yet, but rumors of behind-the-scenes drama among the cast are gaining momentum—and spreading on social media.

One of the biggest new releases of the summer is It Ends With Us, the romantic tragedy based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel that went viral on TikTok in 2021.

There's plenty of excitement on screen, but behind closed doors there seems to be even more. After the film was first announced, fans criticized the aging cast, but new rumors have surfaced surrounding director and lead actor Justin Baldoni.

Now the cast is said to have unfollowed Baldoni on Instagram and avoided answering questions about their collaboration with him during the film's press tour.

Rumors about the cast of the drama “It Ends With Us” explained

At the time of writing this article All speculation about It Ends With Us casting drama comes from online rumors. None of the cast or creative team have confirmed or spoken about any tension.

TikTok user @clairenotdanes used the social platform to address strange coincidences during the film's press tour in a now-viral clip.

During the video, she notes that none of the film's main actors follow Baldoni on Instagram and that there are no photos of Baldoni with any of them during the world premiere of “It Ends With Us.”

Additionally, longtime friends of Baldoni were in attendance, but only posted about co-star Blake Lively on social media. Lively was instead seen with husband Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman.

Although it was revealed last month that she is playing Lady Deadpool, fans are speculating that the couple may have been in attendance to distract from Baldoni's absence. Similar rumors have swirled about why Lively chose a dress most famously worn by Britney Spears in 2002.

This later led fans on X/Twitter to point out that Jenny Slate, who plays Allyssa in the film, had avoided answering a question on the red carpet about her collaboration with Baldoni.

“I just found out about all the drama surrounding the cast of 'It Ends With Us' and oh my god they asked her what it was like working with Justin and she completely ignored the question,” one fan commented.

While nothing concrete has been announced yet, fan speculation suggests that this is causing tension between Baldoni and the rest of the cast. The reason for this is unknown, but fans on Reddit claim to have some ideas.

“Saw another video claiming Blake and Ryan financed a large portion of the film in hopes of getting Blake an Oscar nomination,” posted one fan. “Blake and Ryan basically took creative control, the film was supposedly directed and written by them, but Justin gets the credit and is the scapegoat if the film flops. Supposedly!”

“But Blake said Ryan wrote a crucial scene in the movie,” they added, likely a reference to Reynolds writing the film's rooftop scene, which Lively confirmed to E! News.

Another fan claimed, “I know the editor. Justin and Blake hate each other. I'm not sure why, but the editor is on Justin's side.”

“This is no coincidence. Most movies are complete shit shows where everyone hates each other. But you're definitely right that SO many people unfollowing on social media etc is rare,” said another.

In our own review, we described It Ends With Us as “just frustratingly average – something we've had plenty of in 2024. Peppered with solidly portrayed, superficial trauma, the film functions more as a showreel for how cool Blake Lively is and how much we want to be her, no matter what life throws at us.”
