EastEnders fans 'plan' for the return of a major TV legend this Christmas | Soaps

We really want to see it! (Image: BBC)

As Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is struggling with loneliness in EastEnders and many fans are wondering if a certain Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) will return at Christmas time to save him.

Phil has lost many loved ones over the years, but it was only in the last few weeks that he really began to feel the burden of saying goodbye to so many Mitchells.

After Ben (Max Bowden) was arrested, the family experienced a huge shock when three new members arrived – Billy's (Perry Fenwick) brother Teddy (Roland Manookian) and his sons Harry (Elijah Holloway) and Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman).

As they settled into Albert Square, it became clear that Phil didn't like them. Even after finding out that Stevie (Alan Ford) was still hiding something from Billy, Phil couldn't bring himself to meet the new Mitchells.

Alone at home, a crying Phil sat down and looked at his family photos hanging on the wall. With Ben behind bars, Louise (Tilly Keeper) living elsewhere, and Sharon (Letitia Dean) and Denise (Diane Parish) ultimately deciding when Albie and Raymond can see their father, Phil Mitchell doesn't really have many loved ones around him at the moment.

Phil looks angry in EastEnders

Fans are increasingly worried about Phil (Image: BBC)

After these emotional scenes aired last month, fans took to X and the forum platform Reddit to share your thoughts on Phil's new story.

Fearing for the popular character, many viewers are now wondering whether Phil could fall into a crisis in the next few months and whether his brother Grant could return and save him.

“I actually cried 😢😂 oh Phil. He needs to understand why everyone leaves him in the end. Steve should never leave the show, now is the time to come back please,” said one user on X.

On Reddit, this fan shared these thoughts, writing: “And I think with the whole Phil being lonely thing, he's going to totally freak out by Christmas and be similar to Max in 2017.

“The whole place hates him and Phil just fights with everyone and completely loses control. Not to mention, I think Grant is now guaranteed to come back, as has been hinted at many times recently, and that could save him.”

Ross Kemp, 59, may have risen to fame as tough guy Grant Mitchell in EastEnders, but his career has been far more varied than just throwing people out of Albert Square pubs.

Having last been seen in Walford in 2016, during the storyline that tragically killed Peggy Mitchell, viewers are surely prepared for Grant Mitchell’s return.

Executive producer Chris Clenshaw revealed last year that he would like to bring Grant back for “more brotherly drama with Phil,” but would Ross be willing to return?

Before Chris' comments, Ross gave the classic “never say never” answer to the question on The One Show.

“I loved the role and played it for 10 years,” he said.

“I must have liked it because I stayed there for 10 years. But you know, it was great fun, I liked the cast, it was a great job.” [I’m] doing a lot of different things at the moment, but never say never!'
