How to get a bargain

SUN Savers editor Lana Clements explains how to find a discounted item and score a bargain:

Sign up for loyalty programs from the brands you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer their members discounts or special prices as well as other perks.

You can get real bargains during the sale.

Retailers typically offer regular specials tied to end-of-month payday or holiday weekends, so keep an eye out for these deals and shop when they're in effect.

Sign up for mailing lists so you're also the first to know about special offers. It can also be worth following retailers on social media.

When shopping online, always look for discount codes or vouchers that you can use. couponcodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two websites that aggregate special offers by retailer.

It's handy to have scanner apps on your phone. The Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that lets you compare prices on branded items while you shop.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M's scanner in the app to search for discounts in store before they are marked by staff.

And always check before paying if you can get cashback. This means you get some of your money back or a discount on the item.

Meanwhile, ASDA customers are flocking to the popular Christmas chocolate, which is now back on supermarket shelves.

One customer said Cadbury Puds are now available at Asda, just days after spotting Mint Maltesers Reindeers and Mince Pies on offer.

The eagle-eyed shopper snapped a photo of the signature Christmas treat on sale at the major supermarket and shared it on Newfoodsuk's Facebook page, captioning it: “Cadbury Puds are back and now available at Asda!!”

The chocolate with truffle filling, hazelnut pieces and crispy puffed rice pieces costs 60 pence each at Asda.

It is also sold as a multipack of five puddings priced at £2.

Each pudding has 197 kcal and is described by Cadbury as “the perfect festive Christmas gift”.

This comes just days after the shopper spotted Mint Maltesers Reindeers on offer at Asda and shared a photo of it on the food reviews page.

The festive treat, made by Mars and available in a single pack, costs 55 pence in the supermarket.

A single chocolate reindeer weighing 29 g has 157 kcal.

Many customers commented on the social media post, with one saying: “Already?!!”

One agreed, adding: “I swear it comes earlier every year.”

Earlier this week, shoppers also found mince pies at Morrisons and while many were surprised, others seemed delighted.

One person commented: “These are the only mince pies I eat. They are delicious. When they bring out these bad boys you know Christmas is just around the corner.”

Another added: “They are so LUSTY. One cup of tea is never enough.”
