Vice President Alupo in Rwanda for the inauguration of President Kagame

KIGALI- Vice President Jessica Alupo leads the Ugandan government delegation currently in Rwanda for the inauguration of President Paul Kagame.

“I represent HEYK Museveni and congratulate the people of Rwanda on the peaceful and smooth presidential elections last month,” said a post on VP's social media platform X.

The Vice President, who arrived by land on Saturday, was received at the Katuna border post in Gicumbi district by Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, Rwanda's Minister of Environment, and Major General Robert Rusoke, Uganda's High Commissioner in Kigali.

President Kagame will be sworn in on Sunday, August 11, beginning a new five-year term.
An estimated 45,000 people, including heads of state from Africa and other countries, are attending the ceremonies at Amahoro Stadium.

UPDF Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba will also attend the ceremonies as a “special guest”.

General Kainerugaba, who flew to Kigali early Saturday, was received by his Rwandan counterpart, General Mubarak Muganga, and other senior RDF officers.

Kagame takes the oath of office following his landslide victory in the elections on 14 and 15 July, securing more than 99 percent of the votes cast.

Article 102 of the Rwandan Constitution stipulates that the elected President shall take the oath of office within 30 days of his election.
