Slidell police arrested a Slidell-area man Monday afternoon after investigating a shooting that occurred over the weekend that left one man injured.

Shortly before midnight on Friday (August 9, 2024), Slidell Police responded to an apartment at 2600 Mary Street after receiving reports that a man had a gunshot wound.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 46-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh. As a preventative life-saving measure, officers placed a tourniquet on the victim's leg before he was flown by rescue helicopter to University Medical Center in New Orleans.

During the course of the investigation, Slidell Police Department detectives learned that the suspect entered the victim's apartment through the front door. The victim, who did not know the suspect, attempted to get him to leave his apartment, but a struggle ensued between the suspect and the victim.

Shortly after the victim forced him out of the apartment, the suspect returned with a 9mm weapon and shot the victim, striking him in the left thigh. The suspect then left the area, leaving the victim with the gunshot wound.

Investigators found a cell phone belonging to the suspect that had been left at the scene. Based on the evidence found, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 28-year-old Nicholas Vogel of Slidell, LA.

Vogel was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into the Slidell City Jail on one count of LRS 14:60 (aggravated burglary) and one count of LRS 14:27/14:30.1 (attempted second degree murder).

The victim remains in hospital but is currently in stable condition.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
