Two men in Detroit convicted of membership in Huntington drug trafficking organization, prosecutors say

Two men were sentenced to prison after being charged with trafficking methamphetamine and admitting their role in a drug trafficking organization, prosecutors said.

Vernard Antonio Brown, also known as “Bam,” 33, of Detroit, Michigan, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by four years of probation, after being arrested by Huntington police in November 2023.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, after his arrest, police searched Brown's home and discovered quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as several firearms and ammunition. Brown admitted to being a member of the drug trafficking organization and possessing the weapons to sell drugs.

Brown further admitted his role in several drug deals with DTO, including a May 2023 case in which he and an informant distributed 446 grams of meth.

Denzil Roger Grant II, 50, of Hurricane, was sentenced to four years in prison and three years probation after he was arrested when authorities discovered 13.5 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.

He later admitted that he intended to distribute the drugs and that he had previously approached DTO leader Darrell Cashawn Massey to obtain methamphetamine.

The two, along with Massey, are among 27 people charged with distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl from Detroit, Michigan, to Huntington and other southern areas of West Virginia.
