Why is the victory against Canada-Cincinnati not as famous as the Sunshine Double?

Rafael Nadal won Canada-Cincinnati but was unable to complete the Sunshine Double.

The Sunshine Double in tennis is a remarkable feat achieved by the player after winning the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open in the same year. It is often considered one of the rarest feats in tennis, as only seven ATP players and four WTA stars have achieved it.

Apart from that, only two tennis players have managed to repeat this feat in two consecutive years. Roger Federer did it twice in a row in 2005 and 2006, while Novak Djokovic managed it three times in a row from 2014 to 2016.

The Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open are played under different conditions. There are significant differences in the surface and climate conditions in Miami and Indian Wells. Both Masters are played on opposite coasts and in opposite time zones on different surfaces with different balls.

Since there are no indoor courts, the climate plays a crucial role in the tournament. The games are played in hot and humid weather, with temperatures in the states of Florida and California rising to around 35 degrees Celsius in March.

In addition, in the 1990s, the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open were the only two-week tournaments outside of the majors. Playing in hot weather is always a big challenge for tennis players, as the spot is extremely physical and also requires an elite mentality.

The Canadian Open is now the oldest tennis tournament outside of the Grand Slams. The tournament was founded in 1881. The Cincinnati Open, on the other hand, was founded in 1899. Both tournaments take place in North America and the climate is quite similar in Canada and the United States.

In addition, both tournaments are played in one week. In addition, the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters have fewer players in their main draws, both in singles and doubles, than the Sunshine Double, which is the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open.

Both Sunshine Doubles tournaments feature seven rounds, while the Cincinnati Masters and Canadian Open only feature six rounds. To put it simply, the Miami Open and Indian Wells Masters are played like a Grand Slam on two different coasts, while the Canada-Cincinnati Doubles is just the opposite.
