Burlington man arrested after knife and pipe attack | Daily Democrat, Fort Madison, Iowa

Nathan Ferguson, 32, of Burlington was arrested Monday on several felony charges after committing a burglary in Grandview that left three people injured.

According to a press release from the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, the Louisa County Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call from a woman who reported an assault at 314 N. Main Street in Grandview by an unknown man using what she believed to be a pipe.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found that three members of the Giovanazzi family had been attacked with a metal bar and a kitchen knife.

A family member remains in critical condition at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, the press release said.

Authorities spoke with victims and witnesses and concluded that Ferguson showed up at the apartment, forced his way in and carried out the attack.

All victims have a connection to Ferguson.

After members of the Giovanazzi family managed to fend off the attack, Ferguson fled in a Pontiac Grand Prix to Burlington in 2007, where he was arrested by the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office and West Burlington Police.

Ferguson was charged with six Class C misdemeanors, including two counts of willful assault, two counts of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

Ferguson is being held in the Louisa County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.

According to police, the case is not yet closed and further charges are possible.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Grandview Fire Department, Louisa County EMS, Des Moines County Sheriff's Office, West Burlington Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
