Man charged in February child death Westside Jacksonville

JSO said 60-year-old Tyrone Golson was already in jail on other charges when they obtained an arrest warrant.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection with the death of a child on the Westside in February.

Tyrone Tillman Golson, 60, was charged with murder on Wednesday.

On February 18, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office patrol officers responded to an unresponsive child in the 900 block of Allison Street. The child was transported by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department to a local hospital, where hospital personnel pronounced him dead.

When officers arrived, they found the child, who is between five and ten years old, in his bed. They said both parents were home at the time, according to the JSO.

The JSO's investigation was ongoing and the medical examiner's office concluded the cause of death was “multiple blunt force trauma and diphenhydramine poisoning,” the agency said. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine used to treat allergy, fever and cold symptoms.

According to police, Golson was already in jail at the time of his arrest on three charges: unauthorized sexual contact with a minor, possession of photographs/sexual images of a child, sexual battery of a child via computer and unauthorized use of a two-way device.
