Raygun's first public statement since his viral performance that earned zero points at the Olympics divides opinions

The Olympics are over, but people are still talking about one of the most viral moments of the Paris Games.

And that moment would be the appearance of Australian breakdancer Raygun, real name Rachael Gunn.

When the “Breaking” event made its debut at the Olympics, the B-Girl apparently failed to impress the audience or the judges, as she scored a 0.0 in the competition and became the target of numerous jokes and memes on social media.

Gunn has now finally posted her own response on Instagram and admitted that the reaction was quite “devastating”.

You can hear what she had to say here:

In a video posted on August 15, she said, “I really appreciate the positivity and am glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives, that's what I hoped.”

Yes, even if it was unintentional, it certainly brought a smile to the faces of many people around the world, and that's something, I think.

She continued, “I didn't realize that it would also open the door to so much hate, which was honestly pretty devastating. But I went out and had fun.”

“I've worked my ass off preparing for the Olympics and really given it my all. And I'm honoured to have been part of the Australian team and part of Australia's groundbreaking debut. What the other athletes have achieved is just phenomenal.”

However, her video was not popular with everyone on the Internet and divided social media users quite a bit.

Under her Instagram video, some people defended the criticism and spoke out against Gunn's reaction.

One user wrote: “You're a college professor, right? Then you know that when you fail a student and give them feedback, you're not reacting out of hate. You're failing them and giving them feedback because no matter how hard the student tried, their work wasn't good enough to get the grades they needed.”

“Nice try but obviously you didn't accept what you did,” wrote a second.

Others insisted that the athlete should ignore the comments and continue to be successful in breakdancing.

“You put breaking on the map girl. I loved it. Ignore the haters and just delete all their comments. Success is the best revenge. I think you should have some fun with it,” one defender wrote on the video.

“When I first saw your video I thought how funny and different your interpretation was. Then I realized all the bullying. I think you were super funny and authentic,” added another.
