Bills announce LB Matt Milano suffered a bicep injury; it's 'too early' to say if he can return during the 2024 season

Buffalo Bills LB Matt Milano will be out for an extended period of time after suffering a bicep injury during practice earlier this week. Bills head coach Sean McDermott said it is “too early at this point” to know if Milano will be able to return during the 2024 season.

“An unfortunate situation,” McDermott said during the press conference on Thursday.

“(Matt) has a good family behind him that will support him, teammates that will support him, as well as the coaching staff and the entire football organization.”

Milano, 30, recovered from a season-ending leg injury in Week 5 of the 2023 season and was cleared to return to full practice with the Bills ahead of this year's training camp. He sustained the bicep injury during an unassisted tackling drill in practice earlier this week.

“Matt grabbed a bag and hit his arm,” McDermott said.

McDermott added that Milano is a “resilient player” and he is confident the star linebacker will recover.

“If you know the guy, you know this isn't going to get Matt Milano down or down,” the Bills coach said. “He stayed in Buffalo all summer recovering from his leg injury and now this is happening. It's an unfortunate set of circumstances, but I know he's going to handle it well.”

Buffalo will now draft the next man to fill the void, likely second-year LB Dorian Williams. In his rookie season, Williams played in all 17 regular-season games, starting twice and appearing in 14 games, recording 40 tackles.

“Dorian is going to do a good job, he's made progress,” McDermott said. “And now it's not just his turn, but all the teammates around him. It's not just one person's job to fill the void or try to fill the void that Matt left.”

The Bills are in Pittsburgh today for a joint practice with the Steelers. Coverage of the practice will be available later today on BuffaloBills.com.
