Business in Boutte evacuated due to gas leak

BOUTTE, Louisiana – The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office posted the following on Facebook about a gas leak in Boutte that led to the evacuation of several businesses in the area of ​​U.S. Highway 90 and Melonie Street on Thursday.

“Atmos Energy has advised that there is a gas leak in the area of ​​Highway 90 and Melonie Street in Boutte,” the post said. “They are working to determine the source of the leak but have advised that it is underground. Out of an abundance of caution, several businesses in the immediate area have been evacuated. Please avoid this area if possible!”

According to the SCSO, the evacuation is a precautionary measure.

Teams are currently working to locate the leak and fix the issue.
