Killers dust off rarities at residency opener: setlist, videos

The Killers kicked off their residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Wednesday, reviving some long-abandoned rarities to mark the occasion.

It was a homecoming for the band, which formed in Sin City in 2001. The residency, which runs until September 1, is also a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Killers’ groundbreaking debut album, Hot excitement.

The evening began with “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine”, the emphatic Hot excitement opening track. Next came the band's ubiquitous hit “Mr. Brightside” as the Killers played their debut LP in chronological order.

Other highlights included “Everything Will Be Alright,” which the group played for the first time since 2005, and the rarely played “Believe Me Natalie,” which hadn’t appeared in their setlist for six years.

The Killers honor their roots in Las Vegas

At some point during the evening, frontman Brandon Flowers took a moment to reflect on the band's Las Vegas roots and their twenty years of fame.

“As you know, a lot of people come to Vegas to gamble,” the singer noted. “And I'm no exception. I came here from a quiet town in Utah when I was just 16 years old. I had big dreams and worked here at Caesars Palace as a busboy.”

“And I staked my life on three men I barely knew,” he continued. “Some people come to Vegas and lose everything – that's just how it goes. But tonight is a reminder: sometimes things don't work out that way.”

After the performance Hot excitement In its entirety, the Killers briefly left the stage but returned for an encore of songs from across their career, including the live debut of their latest song, the Vegas-inspired “Bright Lights.” Videos and the full setlist of the performance can be found below.
