Miami woman allegedly threatened grandfather while driving

MIAMI – A heated argument during a car ride escalated into a potentially dangerous situation when a woman threatened her 81-year-old grandfather with a knife in their Miami home in late April, according to police.

According to a Miami Police Department report, 21-year-old Henessy Tirado is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a person 65 years of age or older following her arrest on Wednesday.

The incident began when Miami police were called to a home shortly before 2:30 p.m. on April 20 after receiving reports of threats being made against a home near the 1000 block of Northwest 45th Street in the Liberty City neighborhood.

According to police, the victim claimed that Tirado became increasingly impatient when he did not immediately agree to take her to her desired destination.

According to police, the situation quickly became hostile and an argument broke out.

During the argument, Tirado grabbed a knife from the kitchen and pointed it at the victim.

A witness who was sitting on the couch at the time of the incident told police she overheard the argument and clearly heard Tirado threatening the victim.

According to the witness, Tirado told her grandfather, “If you don't take me now, I'm going to stab you, just like my mother always did,” the report said.

According to police, another witness stated that Tirado was holding the knife and threatening to slash the victim's tires.

The victim feared for his safety and told Tirado he would call the police, authorities said.

At that point, police said, Tirado threw the knife into the apartment and fled the scene before police arrived. Police said they later confiscated the knife.

As of Thursday, Tirado has been held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center; her bail has not yet been set.

Police did not disclose where the suspect had asked her grandfather to take her before the incident or whether her mother had previously been charged.
