Two children among those killed in accident after semi-trailer crashed into vehicles at highway speed

SAINT LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. (KBJR/Gray News) – Authorities in Minnesota are investigating a fatal highway crash involving multiple vehicles and a tractor-trailer.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, two children and a man and woman in their 60s died in a collision on Highway 2 near Floodwood on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said they were traveling in a Honda Pilot, one of several cars stopped for construction on the highway, when a tractor-trailer driver failed to slow down and crashed into the vehicles.

According to authorities, the semi-trailer was traveling at highway speeds at the time of the accident.

According to state police, the truck driver was a 63-year-old man from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two other people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.

Authorities identified the driver of the Honda Pilot as 65-year-old Vincent Dow. His passengers were Bonnie Dow, 66, Hope Oakgrove, 9, and Charlotte White, 9.

They were all wearing seat belts, but unfortunately did not survive the accident, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
