5 arrests in dispute between Chickie's and Pete's in South Philly – NBC10 Philadelphia

Five people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a large brawl at a Chickie's & Pete's restaurant in South Philly, including a man who is also accused of assaulting a police sergeant.

On August 2, 2024, shortly before 6 p.m., police responded to a report of a person screaming and a robbery alarm at Chickie's & Pete's in the 1500 block of Packer Avenue.

When police arrived, they discovered two groups involved in a fight that took place during a family gathering, investigators said.

While attempting to break up the groups, a police sergeant attempted to arrest one of the men involved, later identified as 39-year-old Joseph Baldino. Baldino allegedly resisted arrest and punched the sergeant in the face several times. Other officers arrested Baldino and took him into custody, investigators said.

Baldino was taken to the hospital where he was treated for facial injuries sustained during the fight, investigators said. He was later taken into police custody and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and other related offenses.

John Ciancaglini, 68, and his 62-year-old wife, Kathy Ciancaglini, were also arrested in connection with the brawl and charged with disturbing the peace, criminal conspiracy and other related offenses.

Police also identified Richard DiBella, 45, and his brother Michael DiBella, 37, as suspects in the brawl. Both men later turned themselves in, police said.

Online court records do not contain any information about legal representatives who could speak on behalf of the suspects.
