Man arrested for arson, Kewanee police say

KEWANEE, Illinois (KWQC) – Kewanee Police have arrested a man for arson.

Allatonie Housley, 51, was arrested by Kewanee police as part of an arson investigation, authorities said in a news release. Housley was transported to Kewanee police for registration and processing and then taken to the Henry County Jail. Preliminary charges against him include arson, criminal damage to property and trespassing.

The charges against Housley are based on the following.

At around 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Kewanee police and fire departments responded to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of North East Street, according to a news release from authorities.

After the fire department arrived, the fire was quickly extinguished, police said.

Police said the fire department, police department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office immediately began an investigation. At that time, it was determined that the fire was arson.

At around 6:30 a.m., Housley was identified as a suspect and taken into custody, police said.

If convicted, Housley faces three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, police said.
