Accused shooter returned to Bryan County for arraignment

BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) – A Hendrix man accused of shooting a Bryan County sheriff's deputy over the weekend is in the Bryan County Jail Thursday.

The sheriff's office picked up 48-year-old Wesley Buford from the Collin County Jail Thursday morning and transported him back to Oklahoma to face charges.

Buford is accused of shooting Deputy Austin Murray multiple times during an argument in Hendrix on Sunday.

Murray was hit by three shots, in his vest, his hand and his thigh.

Sheriff Johnny Christian said things could have been much worse if Murray's training hadn't worked.

“It was incredible to see him stand up to evil and danger and fight through it all,” said Sheriff Christian. “He stayed in the fight the whole time.”

Buford faced several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a police officer.
