Palm Bay teenager charged in fatal hit-and-run crash that killed pedestrian

A 17-year-old Palm Bay driver was arrested Thursday after police say he struck and killed a 23-year-old pedestrian earlier this week at speeds of up to 90 mph (145 km/h) and then drove away from the scene.

The teen's father, 37-year-old Narrian Sabdull, returned to the scene of the accident at the corner of Capeador and Nadell Street at 8:35 p.m. after the car sped away. He told officers he was the driver of the gray Hyundai Sonata that struck the victim, later identified as Nathaniel Soueidan.

However, Palm Bay police doubted the father's account because forensic information and other inconsistencies indicated that the man's son, Tyler Sabdull, was driving.

Tyler Sabdull was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and negligent driving after Palm Bay traffic police reviewed surveillance video. Narrian Sabdull Jr. was charged with making a false report, police reported.

“This incident is deeply concerning and underscores the seriousness of the road safety situation and the importance of accountability,” said Police Chief Mario Augello of the Palm Bay Police Department in a statement released late Thursday.

“We are determined to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is done. Our thoughts are with the victim's family at this incredibly difficult time.”
