It's fake news, Delta commando exposes alleged police shooting in viral video

The Delta State Police Command has denied allegations that officers of Dragon 15 shot dead a young man in the Morsogar area of the state on Tuesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, a video circulated on social media claiming that a police officer shot dead a young man in Delta State because he refused to give them money.

In a statement on X.com on Thursday, the command's spokesman, SP Edafe Bright, dismissed the video as fake news, saying: “If the police officers had done anything wrong, they would be behind bars now. We do not protect black sheep.”

Edafe wrote: “Say no to fake news! In response to the fake video that went viral yesterday, Dragon 15 police officers shot dead a boy in Morsogar on Tuesday.

“Well, after I did my best to explain that he had not been shot, the CP instructed the team to look for the boy so that he would come and tell the world himself whether he had actually been shot or not.

“I hope and pray that bloggers will kindly publish this like they did with the fake video that went viral.”

In the video, the young man speaks to Edafe and describes the incident.

He said: “The police officer just pushed me and I fainted. I was taken to the hospital afterward. The police did not shoot me.”

Edafe called on citizens to trust the police, cooperate with their officers and let them do their job.

“Nigerians should learn to check facts. You don't have to believe everything you see on social media. Check facts, analyse videos and draw conclusions before you draw conclusions,” he added.
