“Major” gas leak on Espinosa Road, work planned overnight

North Monterey County firefighters are currently working with Pacific Gas and Electric on a gas leak between Castroville and North Salinas. A large gas leak has been reported on Espinosa between Highway 183 and Rodgers. The road is closed until further notice. The road has been closed to ensure the safety of everyone involved and the public. A spokesperson for North Monterey County Firefighters said a tractor blade punctured a pipe and caused the gas leak. The leak was first reported around 12:52 p.m. Work will likely continue through the night.
