One person arrested after shooting in Danville

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – A man was arrested following a shooting in Danville.

According to Danville police, the shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, 25-year-old Marvin James Saunders Jr. shot a man he had been arguing with in the 200 block of N. Main Street. No one was injured in the shooting, but a vehicle was struck.

Police were called to the scene and learned that Saunders had fled. Two other officers spotted him and attempted to catch up with him. One officer was then involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of W. Thomas St. and N. Main St.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was uninjured.

Saunders was arrested during a traffic stop and his firearm was confiscated. He is charged with attempting to use a firearm in the commission of a crime, discharging a firearm in a public place, reckless handling of a firearm and brandishing a firearm. He is being held without bail in the Danville City Jail.
