Woman arrested after break-in at Spokane home leads to SWAT standoff | News

SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after breaking into a home on West Spofford Avenue, causing a standoff with the SWAT unit, according to Spokane police.

According to police, 31-year-old Kyza R. Richardson was observed throwing a brick at a window from the house shortly before noon. Callers said Richardson had broken into the same house in the past.

When officers arrived at the house, they saw that several doors were barricaded. The SPD said it could identify Richardson and there was a protective order in place that prevented her from entering the property.

Shortly before 1 p.m., according to SPD, officers attempted to make contact with Richardson, but she was unresponsive. SWAT units, canine units, hostage negotiators and air support arrived to try to get her out of the house.

Officers served a search warrant and managed to place chemical irritants in the house to lure Richardson out.

Richardson turned herself in and was arrested. She was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of burglary, illegal possession of a weapon, contempt of court order, and malicious damage to property.

SPD said the weapons charge was added after officers found evidence that Richardson was carrying a weapon at one point in the home.
