SUGA's drinking and car accident: Korean media admits in first clip that it is NOT a BTS member; fans expect apology

BTS' SUGA was recently involved in a controversy for his involvement in a drunk driving incident. JTBC had released a footage claiming that the artist was featured in the video. However, it was confirmed that the artist was not featured in the clip; it was someone else.

On August 15, 2024, South Korean news channel JTBC confirmed that surveillance camera footage previously posted on its channel claiming to be of BTS member SUGA was false. The clip caused a huge uproar among netizens as it showed the artist riding a scooter along the main road opposite Nine One Hannam.

The rapper was accused of lying about the distance he traveled and the place where he fell off his bike. This sparked a lot of baseless criticism and accusations, and fans demanded an official apology from the media platform.

However, a report by news channel DongA Ilbo, which included actual footage of the K-pop star riding an electric scooter in front of his house, cast doubt on the authenticity of the previously released video clip. In the newly released CCTV video, the artist can be seen arriving in front of his studio apartment from his studio and losing his balance at the gate. At that moment, three police officers patrolling the area around Nine One Hannam arrived.

The artist's studio is located about 500 meters away from Nine One Hannam. The report further proved that the previously released footage of the artist on a motorcycle was not of him as it was moving towards Namsan and not towards SUGA's house. In addition, BIGHIT Music also confirmed the authenticity of the video.

Previously, BTS' SUGA was caught by authorities while driving an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol. Yongsan Police Station officially charged him with violating traffic regulations by driving while under the influence of alcohol, revoked his driver's license, and fined him. The artist apologized to fans for his irresponsible behavior and promised to do better.

SUGA was drafted into the South Korean Army as a civil servant on September 22, 2023, and will be discharged sometime around 2025. Before his enlistment, he released his debut solo album, which was released on April 21, 2023 under his producer name August D.
