Man killed in Arlington shooting after allegedly strangling woman

Arlington police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead. The gunman told police he shot the man to protect a woman he allegedly strangled.

According to an Arlington Police Department news release, police were called to the 2900 block of Forest Hollow Lane shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday for a shooting in progress. A woman told police the father of her child had been shot by one of her relatives.

The relative told police he shot the man, identified by the Tarrant County Coroner as 30-year-old Cameron Deandre McGowan, to protect the woman and himself, police said. The relative told police McGowan strangled the woman, the news release said.

According to coroner's records, McGowan was pronounced dead at a hospital around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators found there had been a history of domestic violence between McGowan and the woman before, police said. Dallas County court records show McGowan had been charged with domestic violence, with the status of one case listed as “pending filing” and another as “closed.”

Police said no arrests have been made yet, but the investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office for further review.
