Man sentenced to life imprisonment for armed robbery

JONESBORO, Arkansas (KAIT) – A Memphis man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after a jury found him guilty of robbing a Jonesboro clothing store at gunpoint.

A Craighead County jury convicted Pierre D. Wright, 34, of aggravated robbery and theft of property valued at less than $1,000 in connection with the Feb. 8 robbery of Plato's Closet, 2600 Fair Park Blvd.

On Thursday, August 15, Second Judicial District Judge Scott Ellington sentenced Wright to life in prison in the Arkansas Department of Corrections for the robbery and 12 months probation for the petty theft charge.

Investigators said Wright entered the Jonesboro store, pointed a gun at the cashier and ordered her to put all the money in a bag. He stole $600, according to the affidavit.

During the investigation, investigators discovered that similar robberies had occurred at other Plato Closet stores in the Memphis area.

At the time of his arrest, Wright was out on bail for a robbery in Bartlett, Tennessee.
