Man found guilty of rape and robbery in 2006 and sentenced to over 50 years in prison

A man was found guilty by a jury of raping and burgling a woman in 2006 using DNA technology, according to Greenville police.

Kevin Earl Parker was found guilty earlier this week of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual offense and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

According to GPD, they were called to a woman's home 18 years ago, on July 9, 2006, for a burglary, sexual assault, and armed robbery. Despite continued efforts by GPD, Raleigh Police, and the NC State Crime Laboratory using cutting-edge DNA technology, no suspect has been identified as of 2022.

As a result of these techniques, charges were brought against Parker in a case that has remained unsolved for nearly two decades.

Parker was sentenced by the Honorable Jeffery B. Foster to a minimum term of 54 years and a maximum term of 67 years and 8 months in the NC Department of Adult Corrections.

According to the press release, evidence was presented from the original 2006 case investigated by Major Tara Stanton of the GPD. It included current and former GPD officers who testified along with four DNA analysts from the State Crime Laboratory, the sex crimes nurse in charge from 2006 and the victim.
