Man arrested following investigation into drug trafficking in Chadbourn

CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) – A man has been charged with multiple drug offenses following an investigation in Chadbourn, according to the Columbus County Sheriff's Office.

According to the report, the CCSO's Narcotics Investigation Unit was investigating drug trafficking within the Chadbourn community.

“Detectives from the Narcotics Division, assisted by members of the Special Operations Division, executed a search warrant and received valuable assistance from the Chadbourn Police Department. The coordinated efforts of these agencies resulted in the arrest of Mr. Malik Jaquan Billings, also known by the alias 'Hatch,'” the CCSO press release said.

Billings, 26, is accused of:

  • Trafficking in opium or heroin
  • Possession of cocaine with intent to sell/supply
  • Possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana
  • Maintaining a residence for the sale of a controlled substance
  • Alteration/theft/destruction of evidence
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Resistance to public office

He was given a secured bond of $75,000.

“It is noteworthy that Mr. Billings has been the subject of previous drug-related investigations. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office is relentless in its goal of stopping the ongoing distribution of narcotics by repeat offenders, which continues to fuel addiction and lead to overdoses throughout Columbus County,” the CCSO added.
