Woman's Surprise Birthday Party for Her Boyfriend Goes Viral (Exclusive)

  • Morgann Greene tells PEOPLE she didn't know what to get her boyfriend Kyler Doane for his 25th birthday, so she decided to throw him a surprise party
  • Before the big reveal, Doane said he really thought everyone had forgotten his birthday, and while he was “not mad,” he was “pretty disappointed.”
  • Luckily, he ended up having a great time at the party, which eventually went viral on TikTok

A woman made headlines on TikTok for throwing a surprise birthday party for her boyfriend, who was convinced everyone had forgotten his special day.

When Morgann Greene, 24, of Indialantic, Florida, decided to plan the ultimate surprise party for her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kyler Doane, she didn't expect the video to go viral. But thanks to the sweet reward at the end, her video ended up getting over a million views.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Greene, who is pursuing a career in real estate, says she came up with the idea to surprise her boyfriend of two years about a week before his big day.

“I honestly struggled with what to get him for his birthday, and I thought a surprise party with all of his closest friends would probably be better than anything I could buy him,” she says.

Of course, for the surprise to be a success, everyone had to be in on it – well, except her boyfriend.

“All of his friends knew. His family, his brother and sister-in-law were from Tampa and one of his best friends was from Miami, so basically people came from all over the state,” Greene says. “He was completely surprised, everyone did a pretty good job.”

Greene said the decision to have a golf theme for the celebration was a no-brainer since her boyfriend, who owns a fishing charter company, is a huge golf lover.

“We named our dog Bogey because he loves golf so much,” she says.

Another key aspect of the party? The golf-themed cake, which Greene made herself, although not from scratch.

“I bought a plain white cake from the store,” she says, “and then I got the decorations from Amazon and put it all together.”

The cake was covered in green icing to represent a golf course and was decorated with a number of pretty decorations, including golf balls, a golf cart with clubs in it, and a golfer taking a full swing.

And when asked whether he Really thought his loved ones had forgotten his birthday, Doane tells PEOPLE he was “pretty convinced.”

“A handful of people still came forward, but obviously not everyone at the party came forward,” he says. “I wasn't mad about it, but I was pretty disappointed.”

Greene adds: “He was sad, but he also said, 'It's okay, I just want to spend my birthday with you anyway.'”

To keep the secret surprise party mission a secret, Greene reveals to PEOPLE that she had guests park their cars across the street so Doane couldn't see them.

“When he came home, my car was the only car in the driveway,” she says.

Doane tells us that the mere presence of 20 of his loved ones celebrating him was the highlight of the birthday party, which included a pool tournament and lasted until 1 a.m.

“It was definitely a party,” Doane exclaims proudly.

“It was a lot of work, it was very meticulous,” says Greene, adding that for a week she “had to hide my phone” every time one of the party guests texted her.

Although Doane says the couple had never planned a surprise party for each other before, it's definitely something he'd like to do more often now.

In fact, he tells PEOPLE that he'd “of course” like to return the favor on Greene's next birthday, but he has to keep it very secret so she doesn't get suspicious… especially now.

He says, “Maybe I'll do it about a week in advance.”
