4 men charged with murder in April Baton Rouge killing | Courts

Four men face life sentences after a grand jury indicted them Thursday for their alleged roles in a double murder in April.

Trelvis Albronse Griffin, 23, Titus Lucas, 23, Camari Taylor, 21, and Gervea Ferguson, 26, were each charged with joint murder in the death of 21-year-old Jonathan Williams, according to 19th District Court records.

It was not immediately clear what connection investigators made between the men and Williams' killing, and details of the fatal incident were not available Friday.

Williams and 23-year-old Demetriyon Maquan Grim were killed in the early morning shooting in the 2800 block of 68th Avenue, police said. A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The indictment does not list Grim as a victim, but alleges that the four defendants were responsible for Williams' death.

Griffin, of Denham Springs, and Lucas, of Zachary, were both arrested on April 16 in connection with the shooting. According to court documents, Griffin remains in jail and his attorney filed a motion Wednesday to have him released because the deadline to file charges had passed. By law, prosecutors have 120 days to formally charge a defendant in death penalty cases or other crimes that carry an automatic life sentence.

A day later, prosecutors responded that Baton Rouge detectives investigating the case had recently provided additional information incriminating Taylor and Ferguson. Arrest warrants were issued for both men that same day, and charges were filed shortly thereafter, according to court records.
