Ventura man arrested Wednesday for attacking police officer with his vehicle to evade arrest

VENTURA, Calif. – A 30-year-old Ventura man was arrested Wednesday for striking a deputy with his vehicle while evading arrest on an outstanding warrant.

On August 13, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers with the Ojai Police Department attempted to stop a driver at a gas station in Ventura who had a felony warrant for his arrest, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said in a press release about the arrest.

While officers attempted to arrest the 30-year-old man, he got into his vehicle and drove away from the scene, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, an officer was dragged through the gas station parking lot and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On August 14, detectives from multiple law enforcement agencies located the man in Oxnard. He was arrested and charged with the following counts:

  • PC 245(a)(4) – Assault with a deadly weapon
  • PC 69(a) – Resisting an Officer
  • Outstanding arrest warrant for a serious crime after release

Bail was set at $10,000 and his arraignment is currently scheduled for August 16 in Ventura County Superior Court, which is shared with the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
