MPD patrol car badly damaged in accident in Greater Hollywood area

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis police are investigating an accident involving one of their officers in the Hollywood neighborhood Friday night.

According to MPD, a patrol car was involved in a collision with another car at the intersection of Chelsea Avenue and Hollywood Street.

Additional officers were dispatched to the scene at 6:22 p.m.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

Acting Police Chief CJ Davis told the Memphis City Council last month that the department was struggling with a vehicle shortage.

MPD told Action News 5 that the department received money for new vehicles from this year's budget.

Action News 5 asked about the number of police-involved accidents reported so far this year.

There are still 137 days until 2024, and according to MPD there were 251 Accidents involving police this year.

There was 241 Accidents involving police in the whole of 2023.
