Portland teenager arrested for rape and sodomy after attacking girl he met on dating app: police

A Portland teenager has been arrested for rape and sodomy after attacking a young woman he met on a dating app – and the Portland Police Bureau fears there may be more victims.

According to PPB, on Friday, August 9, at around 11:30 p.m., a community member called 911 to report that a young woman was at the door asking for help and stating that she had been sexually assaulted.

Officers were dispatched to the 9000 block of North Woolsey Avenue, where they found an 18-year-old girl who told them she had been sexually assaulted by a man she met through an online dating app.

The victim told officers that the man raped her under threat of violence. She was immediately given medical attention and detectives from the PPB's Sex Crimes Unit arrived at the scene.

Investigators identified the alleged rapist as 18-year-old Damani J. Anderson of Portland.

Anderson's arrest warrant reveals disturbing details surrounding the incident, including that shortly after meeting in a public area, Anderson allegedly pulled out a gun and led the victim at gunpoint to a secluded area, forced the gun into her mouth and told her he “[does] I do this for a living,” before I attacked the girl.

After the attack, Anderson also reportedly took photos of the girl for “security footage” and stole her cell phone. The victim was able to escape on her own and go to the home of the community member who called 911.

On Thursday, August 15, with the assistance of U.S. Marshals, Anderson was located and taken into custody at a home in the 8000 block of North Swift Way.

He was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery and unlawful use of a weapon.

PPB is releasing Anderson's photo to identify additional potential victims. If community members have information about this case or other victims recognize Anderson, they are asked to contact Detective Kyffin Marcum at [email protected] and reference case number 24-200429.
