The $1,800 Pixel 9 Pro Fold doesn't have all the Video Boost features

Google introduced Video Boost technology with the launch of Pixel 8 Pro in 2023, leveraging Google's AI to improve video quality on Pixel phones. Now, with the recently launched Pixel 9 series, Google has taken Video Boost technology to the next level.

While none of the Pixel 9 series phones, including the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, can natively record 8K video, this capability is made possible by Video Boost's AI 8K upscaling feature. Additionally, the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL now render videos faster (reportedly twice as fast as before), producing the best quality footage even in difficult lighting conditions.

With Video Boost, the Pixel 9 series can also use 5x telephoto zoom, allowing up to 20x zoom without compromising video quality. The HDR Plus feature also ensures that the videos are free of noise or blur.

However, it's worth noting that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which costs $1,800, lacks some key Video Boost upgrades. As a Google spokesperson confirmed to Android Authority, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold's Video Boost doesn't support 8K Video Boost and Super Res Zoom Video features.

This means that while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold still offers HDR Plus video, Night Sight video, and improved processing speeds for Video Boosted video, it may not be a great choice for camera enthusiasts or those who like to take photos and videos with their smartphone. For those who care most about taking photos, especially shooting video, the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL are better choices.

On the other hand, if you were considering spending $1,800 on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the missing features are another reason to reconsider your decision. Still, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold remains an excellent foldable device and is arguably one of the best (if not the best) foldable phones currently on the market.
