Murder of Conway man still unsolved just days after his 50th birthday

Terry Credit was shot just days after his 50th birthday. Now his family is grieving twice as much because his cousin was murdered this year.

CONWAY, Arkansas – Just five days after celebrating his 50th birthday, Terry Credit of Conway was shot and killed.

Since his death in 2016, his family continues to honor his birthday. Every year they release balloons and sing him Happy Birthday.

“Every time their birthdays come around, it gets difficult. That's when it hurts,” said Charles Credit Jr., Terry Credit's brother.

On August 17, 2016, Conway Police received two calls reporting shots fired in the 400 block of East Robins Street.

It was 2:30 a.m. and police were searching the trailer park for suspicious activity.

Police found Credit shot to death in his home. The door was open and a white plastic mask was found in the driveway.

Police recovered two bullet casings and concluded that Terry had been shot twice.

“I feel like he was killed on my watch. I could walk to his trailer,” said Charles Credit Jr. “He was killed maybe a block away from me and the only reason he moved there was because I was there.”

This year has been even harder for the Credit family. Last month, Israel Credit, Terry's cousin, was shot and killed in Conway. Three people have been arrested in connection with his death.

Keyonte Banks and Montrell Simmons were both charged with first-degree murder. Renwick Brown was charged with hindering apprehension.

“Was it worth it? We want to take this opportunity to ask, 'Why? Was it worth it? What did Terry do to you that you went to his house at 2:30 in the morning and took his life?'” said Victoria Credit-Rome, Terry's sister.

Conway police said they are still actively searching for Terry Credit's killer.

As they conduct their investigation, the Credit family continues to honor Terry's legacy and hope for closure.

“I am determined not to stop until we get justice for my brother's life. We deserve it,” said Victoria Credit-Rome.
