22 years after Laci Peterson's murder, Scott Peterson's lover breaks her silence in a rare interview

A case that gripped people two decades ago is now back in the spotlight as a new documentary lands in the top 10 Netflix series.

American Murder: Laci Peterson focuses on the story of convicted murderer Scott Peterson and his gruesome crimes. The true crime documentary is an uncomfortable experience as it describes the disappearance of the expectant mother and includes interviews with people who were close to the Petersons.

One of the people featured is Amber Frey, who was unknowingly Scott's lover and later helped the police with the investigation.

In the Netflix documentary, the now 49-year-old speaks for the first time in a filmed video interview.

Scott had been having an affair with the woman in the six weeks before the 2002 murder when Laci was reported missing on December 24. She was eight months pregnant and expecting the couple's first child.

And four months later, her body washed up on the shores of Brooks Island. Her unborn son had been found a mile away the day before.

Scott was convicted and sentenced to death in 2004. He was later sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He has always denied the murder.

Scott lied to Frey about his wife.

And Frey explained that he initially “lied that he was married.”

She said: “He said he had 'lost' his wife and this was the first holiday without her. I remember just comforting him.”

“With all his emotions, I thought, 'I don't want to pry, he'll say what he feels comfortable with.' He was sorry he'd lied to me and hoped it hadn't changed anything.”

However, it turns out that the day he told Frey he “lost his wife” was the same day Scott bought the boat he used to dump her body into the water.

However, since his girlfriend continued the relationship, she did not notice the warning signs until late December, when her friend sent her a newspaper clipping about the missing Laci and a description of her husband.

Frey said she couldn't believe it and the thought of meeting a man who was involved in his wife's disappearance was “terrifying.”

So she called the police on December 30 and wanted to tell them “everything she knew.”

She showed them pictures that proved he was leading a double life and promised the police that she would not tell Scott that she had spoken to them.

Frey was then able to record her conversations as evidence and show her phone conversations on the Netflix show.

Finally, she confronted the convicted murderer on the phone, who said with tears in his eyes: “Honey, do you think I had something to do with her disappearance?

“I’m not that bad.”

American Murder: Laci Peterson is now available to stream on Netflix.
