Danger of backwash and haze from forest fires

Video: Risk of backwash and haze from forest fires

IMPROVEMENTS IN OUR LOCAL WEATHER. IT'S GRAY TO FIRST THIS MORNING AS WE'RE DEALING WITH SOME CLOUDS AND FOG. AND OF COURSE THAT HAZY FACTOR IS DUE TO THE SMOKE IN THE AIR FROM SOME OF THESE WILDFIRES IN CANADA. SO LET'S START WITH THE FOG THIS MORNING. IT'S THICK IN PLACES AND IT'S REDUCING OUR VISIBILITY TO UP TO A QUARTER OF A MILE SOUTH OF BOSTON AND PART OF ROUTE 3. WE'RE ALSO SEEING SOME OF THOSE CLOUDS FLOWING IN FROM THE WEST. THEY WILL LIKELY COVER OUR SKIES FOR MOST OF THE DAY, ESPECIALLY IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS. THE BIGGEST IMPACT IN THE AREAS OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS TODAY WILL BE THAT HAZE FACTOR. UNFORTUNATELY IT SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE DENSER OVER OUR REGION TODAY DUE TO THE WILDFIRE SMOKE. AND IT WILL BE THE SAME TONIGHT AS WELL. WE SHOULD SEE IMPROVEMENTS AS WE SEE THE SMOKE START TO THINN. IT'S OUR SUNDAY AND SO THE HAZING WILL NOT BE AS DENSIVE TOMORROW BUT BECAUSE OF ALL THE SMOKE IN THE AIR, OUR AIR QUALITY IS RATED AS MODERATE TODAY. SO IF YOU ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO AIR POLLUTANTS, YOU MAY HAVE TO KEEP THIS IN MIND, ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON. THE CLOUDS AND MIST WILL GIVE WAY TO A SLIGHT LIGHTNING THIS MORNING SO THAT A HAZEY SUN WELCOMES YOU IN THE MIDDAY AND AFTERNOON BECAUSE OF THE SMOKE IN THE AIR AS WE MOVE TO 25 DEGREES TO JUST 27 DEGREES IN THE WARMEST INLAND SUBURBS. TOWARDS THE CAPE AND ISLANDS YOU'LL SEE TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 25S. FOR US LOCALLY, IT'S A RAIN FREE OUTLOOK TODAY. YOU MAY SEE SOME SIGNS OF BRIGHTENING UP AS WE STRETCH OUT INTO THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING, WITH THE SHOWERS OVER NEW YORK LIKELY TO REMAIN TO THE WEST OF US. SO I THINK YOU'LL SEE SOME PEOPLE GOING TO THE BEACH TODAY, MAYBE TRYING TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE SUMMER WEEKENDS, RIGHT? WE HAVE A RISK OF BACKWARDS ALL OUR COAST BUT THE RISK IS HIGHEST ON THE EAST FACING BEACHES OF CAPE COD AND ALSO ON MOST OF OUR SOUTH FACING BEACHES. SO ASK THE LIFEGUARD IF YOU GO TO THE BEACH TODAY. THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF OUR STOW, A CATEGORY 1 HURRICANE THAT JUST MADE LAND OVER BERMUDA AT 430 STANDARDS. WE ARE UNFORTUNATELY EXPECTING LIFE-THREATENING FLOODING OF THIS KIND THIS MORNING. IT'S FOLLOWING A TRACK ABOUT 500 MILES FROM OUR COAST, ON THE WAY TOWARDS ATLANTIC CANADA, UNTIL LATE MONDAY NIGHT. WE'LL CONTINUE TO WATCH OUR COAST FOR SOME OF THESE WAVES TO LEAD TO A RISK OF RIP CURRENTS HERE. TONIGHT LIGHTLY FOGGY. LET'S TALK ABOUT THE LIKELIHOOD OF TRACKS OF RAIN TOMORROW. So there's a slight risk, but I'm watching it, especially west of I-95. We're going to have a few showers in the morning and into the early afternoon. After that, there'll probably be a break before another line of showers heads our way on Monday. These will probably come in two forms. We're talking a few showers Monday morning and then the possibility of showers and thunderstorms through Monday evening. So Monday and Tuesday will be a little more active in the form of some wet weather here. After we get through the showers on Tuesday, it will be drier and the humidity will drop. Almost a fall feel here, especially Wednesday morning when some of the coolest suburbs will drop in
