Man pleads not guilty in Baxter Ave. shooting

A man arrested in connection with the Aug. 11 shooting in Louisville's Old Highlands neighborhood that left two people dead pleaded not guilty Friday and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Louisville Metro Police arrested 37-year-old Richie Williams on Thursday and charged him with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection with the death of 29-year-old Montay Wade.

According to documents obtained by the Courier Journal, Williams pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday in Jefferson County Court, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 26.

The arrest was made by LMPD's Homicide and Crime Unit after two people were shot in the 900 block of Baxter Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, LMPD spokesman John Bradley said. One man, later identified as 20-year-old Michael Bachelor Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, later identified as Wade, was taken by paramedics to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
