“Friends” creator Marta Kauffman speaks out amid arrests in Matthew Perry's death

The doctors charged in connection with Matthew Perry's death are allowed to continue to prescribe drugs and practice without restrictions, even though their conduct is currently being investigated by the California Medical Board.

TMZ reported that doctors Mark Chavez and Salvador Plasencia were not disciplined or had their licenses restricted, even though they both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine.

In a statement to TMZ, the medical association said that both of their licenses “are current and active and the association has not placed any restrictions on them.”

This discovery comes after the Justice Department announced Thursday that a total of five people – including Chavez, Plasencia and “The Ketamine Queen” – had been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

They are accused of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, distribution of ketamine resulting in death, maintaining premises where drugs are involved, and forgery.

But as those connected to Perry get closer to justice, Friends Creator Marta Kauffman encouraged fans of the show to remember Perry for the “joy” he brought to their lives.

In an interview with The times Speaking on the show's 30th anniversary, Kaufman, 68, said “two things come to mind” about how best to honor Perry's memory.

“One is to donate to drug treatment centers – let's fight the disease,” she said. The other option, Kaufman said, is to watch the show.

“Remember him not as a man who died this way, but as a man who was incredibly funny and brought joy to everyone,” Kaufman said.
