Prosecutor: Harrisonville woman charged in shooting of father and son in Freeman

A woman has been charged in connection with a shooting that killed a father and son in Freeman on Friday.

Misty Stufflebean, 43, of Harrisonville, was charged Saturday with first-degree burglary (a class B felony) and fourth-degree assault (a class C misdemeanor) in connection with the deaths of 47-year-old Michael Spear and 27-year-old Brian Spear.

Officers were dispatched to Main and Washington streets in Freeman, near City Hall and the Freeman Community Club, around 1 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that two men had been shot, the sheriff's office said.

One of the men was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, said Ronnie Lozano, a spokesman for the Cass County Sheriff's Office. The other man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

One man was questioned during the investigation and released. Stufflebean was later taken into custody for questioning and arrested in connection with the shooting.

A judge ordered Stufflebean to remain in custody without bail; she is currently being held in the Cass County Jail.

Officers searched for evidence at the crime scene on Friday and Saturday. In a press release, the sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing.
