Three dead in mass accident on Route 101 in New Hampshire

Three people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Route 101 in Candia, New Hampshire, on Saturday, state police said. Police said a 2010 Toyota Tundra traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed struck a 2018 Nissan Sentra, struck a railing and then crossed into the westbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. State police said the drivers of the Toyota Tundra and Jeep Grand Wagoneer died from injuries they sustained in the crash. A passenger in the Jeep suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Elliot Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. The driver and passenger of the Nissan Sentra suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Elliot Hospital as a precaution, police said. The names of the deceased were not initially released by authorities pending notification of next of kin. Route 101 was closed in both directions following the crash. Westbound traffic was detoured after several hours and the eastbound lanes reopened shortly afterward. The westbound lanes remained closed for about four hours while police conducted their investigation. Speed ​​is believed to be a factor in the crash, but police say the crash remains under investigation.
