Fighter goes viral with “outrageous” head knot

Most people in the MMA community call it a “lump” or a “bump.”

The correct term is hematoma. Whatever you call it, Ricky Glenn suffered a pretty serious hematoma on Saturday night in Perth, Australia, during the pre-fight for UFC 305.

Check out the lump Glenn had after taking a stiff flying knee from Song Kenan.

The swelling on Glenn's head was so large that part of it was a different color than the rest of his face. Song controlled the fight with his punches and won by unanimous decision. (30-27, 30-26, 29-28).

During the fight, many members of the MMA community used X to comment and post pictures of the knot.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Josie Aldo made a brief interjection.

Spinnin Backfist called the knot “outrageous.”

UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad summed it all up in a short answer.

ESPN MMA used emojis to highlight the “big bump” on Glenn’s head.

Current featherweight contender and former bantamweight world champion Aljamain Sterling pondered aloud about the cause of Glenn's hematoma and also inquired about the type of blow that caused the bumps.

It appears that Glenn suffered the hematoma as a result of Song's knee strike.

Song. Glenn was dazed and bruised a few times, but the UFC veteran is as tough as can be and never seemed in danger of being stopped.

Glenn is in a difficult situation in his MMA career. The 35-year-old from Marshalltown, Iowa, has now lost three fights in a row. Although he was not stopped against Song, he was stopped in both of those losses leading up to Saturday night's fight.

He's well into his career and has taken a lot of damage over the past two years. If he gets another fight in the UFC, it could be a must-win situation. Song has been in the UFC since 2017, but needed the win on Saturday night.

Song lost to Kevin Jousset in December 2023. His last three fights have now alternated between wins and losses. It is safe to assume that Song will have one more fight before the end of the year to get closer to a place in the UFC's robust welterweight division.
