Injury problems at the Dodgers continue, Freddie Freeman suffers a finger injury in the game against the Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had injuries of all kinds this season, affecting both pitchers and outfielders, with some of their key players being forced out of the lineup.

The Dodgers' injury problems continued during Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Star first baseman Freddie Freeman caught an unfortunate ground ball that hit him in the middle of his right hand.

Fortunately, initial X-rays were negative and the infielder is being treated day-to-day. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register broke the news of the issue on social media.

The last thing the Dodgers need is for Freeman to be out for an extended period of time. Fortunately, he appears to have avoided a serious injury, but he could still miss a game or two.

With the division race in the National League West so tight, the loss of Freeman's bat hurts Los Angeles. They need everyone healthy to win the division, so hopefully Freeman won't be out too long, if at all.

We'll likely know more soon, but the fact that the initial x-rays are negative is a good sign. Freeman has been a reliable player in the Dodgers' lineup all season despite the various issues they've had.

Star Mookie Betts just returned from a long stint on the injured list, so this is just another in a long line of problems for Los Angeles. This year, Freeman has a batting average of .292 with 17 home runs and 71 runs batted in.

Los Angeles needs Freeman in the lineup to achieve its goal of winning another World Series. The team may tread carefully with Freeman to avoid problems down the road.

Letting Freeman fully recover seems like the best course of action, and the Dodgers are typically hesitant to return players quickly after an injury.

Los Angeles expects both all-rounder Tommy Edman and third baseman Max Muncy to return from injuries next week, so reinforcements are on the way. The Dodgers also just placed top starter Tyler Glasnow on the injured list, adding to the list of players who have been injured this season.

It's been a tough season for the Dodgers, but they've somehow battled through it and kept their heads above water. Despite all the injury problems that have cropped up, they're one of the better teams in baseball.
