What is the “very low key, very mindful” trend and why has it gone viral?

Very reserved, very attentive is the latest internet sensation that has gone viral on TikTok. This social media phenomenon was started by beauty influencers Jools Lebron Earlier this month, many celebrities, including Jenna Ortega, Jennifer Lopez, Penn Badgley, Lindsay Lohan, Joe Biden and Jamie Lee Curtis, have jumped on the trend that has taken the internet by storm.

Background story of the trend “very reserved, very mindful”

As mentioned above, the phrase “very low key, very mindful” was first used by TikTok influencer Jools Lebron, who used it in her video that has garnered over a million views.
In the video, she said, “See how I do my makeup for work? Very low key, very attentive. I don't do too much. I'm very attentive while I'm at work. See how I look? Very presentable. A lot of you girls go to the interview and look like Marge Simpson and go to work and look like Patty and Selma, not low key.”
She later posted a second video in which she talked about being “low-key,” “cute,” and “thoughtful.”

What does reserved mean?

Speaking to US magazine CBS Mornings, Lebron said: “Your restraint means something to you. It's about being mindful and considerate of the people around you, but also of yourself and the way you present yourself to the world.”
“I thought, let's go natural. Let's not do too much. So I thought, I'm not going to show up on the first day with a green eyelid. I'm not going to show up like a clown, but I was really referencing how I performed at another job,” she explained.
“We're all like that; we agree, nothing has to be so serious. Nothing has to be so aggressive. Everything could just be really sweet. Although, you know, we don't do too much. We just do a little bit. I'm not crazy about it. I'm very low key,” she added.
Lebron identifies as a transgender woman. Her TikTok profile @joolieannie has 1.5 followers and 97 million likes.
