Mercedes runs over cyclist in Delhi, driver arrested, car confiscated

The victim was identified as Rajesh Kumar, a gardener by profession.

In another hit-and-run case, a 34-year-old cyclist was found dead on a south Delhi road on Saturday after being hit by a Mercedes, police said.

A passerby called the police after seeing the man lying in a pool of blood on the Ashram-Bhogal flyover. The body was found on the roadside while his bike was discovered about 150 metres away.

The victim was identified as Rajesh Kumar, a gardener residing in Madanpur Khadar in South Delhi. A case has been registered and investigation is on.

During investigation, the driver of the Mercedes was identified as 45-year-old Pradeep Gautam, a resident of Noida. The owner of the luxury car had given the vehicle to Gautam to sell it.

Gautam was arrested and his vehicle was seized for further investigation.

The autopsy will be performed today and the body will be handed over to the relatives after the autopsy.

Last week, a similar hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of a man and serious injuries to his friend when they were run over by a high-speed SUV at Versova beach in the early hours of the morning.

The victim was a 36-year-old rickshaw driver who was sleeping on the beach with his friend to escape the heat. The SUV driver and his friend were arrested by the police.
